For a casual taste of Kyoto! 7 recommended lunches in Gion-Shijo

Here are some recommendations for lunch in the Gion area of Kyoto.

Please refer to them when you come to Kyoto for sightseeing.

1,Kyoto Gion Okaru/long-established udon store

Okarusan is located one street up, not far from Gion-Shijo Station, and is open until 2 a.m., making it a restaurant that can be enjoyed at all hours of the night.

It is a great place to enjoy sweet dishes, as its predecessor was a sweet shop.

At a famous curry udon restaurant,
It is an old-fashioned appearance low dining table and chairs.

Many customers come from overseas, but this is a cash-only restaurant.

The cheese and meat curry udon is the most popular dish.

It is soft udon noodles and sweet, tender curry.

The balance of udon, curry, and meat was absurdly good.

I would have liked to have had it without the cheese.

If there had been a small rice instead, I would have put it in the curry soup after I finished eating the udon.

2,Gion Duck Noodles/Kyoto Ramen specializing in duck meat

It is located in a narrow alley.

It was around 1:00 p.m. and there was a huge line!

I was surprised from the moment the food came out, and as for the sauce, it was prepared just like French food.

I was a little bit excited to have it. The tsukemen soup tasted very mild, partly because it was covered with cream.

The tsukemen had an atmosphere that made me think it might be French cuisine, but I enjoyed it very much.Thank you for the meal.

3,Wabiya Korekidou Gion Hanamikoji Honten/Chicken dishes and wine at Hanamikoji, Gion

High-end yakitori restaurant located along Hanamikoji Street, famous for the Gion stone pavement in Gion, Kyoto.

It is owned by Romain Life of Mar Blanche, a famous confectioner in Kyoto.

Ishiyaki oyakodon is famous for lunch, and the yakitori course is recommended at night.

The restaurant has a prestigious Japanese atmosphere, with 14 seats at the kitchen counter on the first floor and three private rooms on the second floor, making it ideal for entertaining guests.

At the counter, the young chef himself was attentive and courteous.

The chef explained to us how to enjoy the dish.

First, two raw eggs are mixed in and served half-cooked, followed by a second raw egg with the roasted rice.

The final dish is ochazuke (rice with green tea) in chicken broth. It is well seasoned.
There are about five kinds of seasonings, and seasoned nori (seaweed) and pickles are served, so you can enjoy various tastes while changing flavors.

4,Beef cutlet Kyoto Katsuushi Ponto-cho Honten/Beef cutlet specialty restaurant in Kyoto

It seems to be a chain restaurant, but the interior had a relaxed atmosphere that suited Pontocho, and many tourists were entering the restaurant.

Delicious lean beef cutlet. You can eat it on a flaming teppan while grilling it to your liking. I preferred to eat it after grilling it a little. It was the most delicious.

It is also good that there are five kinds of tare (sauce) available: salt, sauce, ponzu (Japanese citrus juice), onsen tamago (hot spring egg), and curry, so you can enjoy various tastes.

5,Farmer’s Vegetables Futagoya Kyoto Ponto-cho/Adult retreat boasting creative vegetable dishes

It is about at the northern end of Pontocho.

It is also a short walk from Sanjo.

The location of the restaurant along the Kamo River is quite good.

If you are on a date, I recommend the window seat.

The menu includes the popular Temari Sushi set.

As I thought, it was a very popular restaurant.

6,Ramen Nishiki/Stylish tai ramen

Ramen Nishiki” is a restaurant in Gion, Kyoto, whose signature menu item is ramen using whole sea bream from Uwajima, Ehime Prefecture, from the soup to the assorted ingredients.

The owner of the restaurant began by opening “ZUND-BAR” in 2001, opened the first restaurant in Ebisu in 2003, and then joined “AFURI,” which has many restaurants mainly in the Kanto area, in 2005, and later served as the executive chef.

In addition to the signature “Shio Ramen,” there were also “Shoyu Ramen,” “Yuzu Ramen,” “Tai Hakyu Ramen,” and a unique ramen called “Yuzu Green Tea Ramen.

The soup is based on carefully extracted sea bream soup stock, to which more than 10 kinds of sea and mountain ingredients are added, and is made without using any chemical seasonings.

The seasoning is rather strong, and the soup has a deep taste with the refined flavor of dashi broth.

7,Gion Tokuya/Delicious Straw Cake

On the tray is a tray of warabimochi on a bed of coarsely shaved ice, kinako (soybean flour), kuromitsu (brown sugar), and a lacquered plate.

kinako (soybean flour), kuromitsu (molasses), and a lacquered plate for torei (rice topping).
First of all, we ate it as it was without adding anything.

It is a very soft and smooth rice cake.

Next, the rice cake is dipped generously into the molasses, and then into the kinako (soybean flour) in the shape of a plum.

Take care not to get swallowed by the soybean flour.
