Introduction
It is a ramen noodle shop call daiichi-asahi.
A 3-minute walk east on Shiokoji-dori from the front exit of Kyoto Station, this long-established ramen restaurant was established in 1947 near the intersection of Takakura Shiokoji.
It is a representative of Kyoto shoyu ramen, and is a very famous restaurant with lines out the door from morning.
It is the origin of many other goodwill stores and franchise stores such as “Daiichi Asahi,” “Ganso Daiichi Asahi,” “Kyoto Ramen Takabashi,” “Kobe Ramen Daiichi Asahi,” and “Owari Ramen Daiichi Asahi.
It is open from 6:00 AM to 1:00 AM, but is always crowded from early morning to late at night, and it is common for customers to wait in line.
The line is even longer after the popular Shinpuku Caekan main branch, located right next door, closes at 20:00.
Incidentally, Daiichi Asahi (established in 1947) and Shinpuku Caikan (established in 1938) use the same noodle factory (Kondo Seimen) and soy sauce (Gokou Shoyu).
The menu includes ramen and its topping variations, gyoza and snack-type side dishes, beer, sake, and non-alcoholic drinks.
Special Ramen
Special” refers to a large bowl of chashu ramen noodles.
The soup is a slightly cloudy soy sauce broth, noodles, plenty of chashu pork, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, and plenty of kujo-negi (green onions).
The noodles are medium-thin and straight. Smooth on the tongue, with a chunky texture. The amount of noodles is quite generous.
The soup is a clear broth made from cooked pork bones.
It has a simple yet deep flavor with concentrated pork flavor.
The chashu pork is a medium-sized Japanese pork loin.
It contains a good balance of fatty and almost lean chashu pork. Thinly sliced chashu is delicious in the soup.
Noodles, soup, and chashu are all orthodox and familiar tastes.
However, when they are combined, they seem to have a unique flavor.
The generous amount of kujo leeks, with their aroma and sweetness, are a perfect match for the ramen.
You can enjoy not only the bright green visual, but also the way the green onions change from crispy at first to soften gradually in the heat of the broth.
By the way, it is possible to order more green onions.
Gyoza (six pieces)
Small sized bite-sized gyoza. Crispy grilled with a little bit of feathers.
The store is popular for its ramen with a gentle taste that you will never get tired of.
You can enjoy this long-established ramen in Kyoto at any time of the day, even early in the morning or late at night.
