Today we will introduce a famous Japanese confectionery in Kyoto.
They are very delicious, so please visit them when you come to Kyoto.
1,Demachi Futaba
A famous restaurant in Demachiyanagi.
I guess I don’t need to tell you how well known it is, but I really admire the lineups that are always forming.
The bean cakes are simple but well-made, with no added sweetness at all.
Personally, I prefer the Yomogi Mochi Countryside Daifuku, which seems to make the most of the grainy bean paste.

2,Gion Tokuya
On the tray is a tray of warabimochi on a bed of coarsely shaved ice, kinako (soybean flour), kuromitsu (brown sugar), and a lacquered plate.
kinako (soybean flour), kuromitsu (molasses), and a lacquered plate for torei (rice topping).
First of all, we ate it as it was without adding anything.
It is a very soft and smooth rice cake.
Next, the rice cake is dipped generously into the molasses, and then into the kinako (soybean flour) in the shape of a plum.
Take care not to get swallowed by the soybean flour.
The strawbimochi is delicious on its own, but when combined with the brown sugar and soybean flour, it makes the strongest combination!
The combination of brown sugar and soybean flour is the strongest!
I devoured it in no time at all.
The remaining ice can be topped with brown sugar and soybean flour to make a Japanese style shaved ice.

3,Saryo Hosen
We wait for the shiborimame to arrive.
I thought I would have to wait longer since they start making them upon order, but the warabimochi arrived in about 15 minutes!
The directions said to eat one without molasses and the other with molasses if you like, so I tried it as it was… this was amazing.
The texture was unlike anything I’ve ever had before, and it was gone from my mouth in no time!
It made me wonder what I had eaten before, and I ate the rest of it with molasses.

The kuzukiri is made from Yoshino-honkatsu.
I thought this is what it means to go down the throat, and I choked once it passed through my mouth and down my throat. It is that slippery.
The molasses is not just sweet like the ones on the market, but has a refined taste besides the sweetness.
You can drink it with just the molasses.
When you open the lid, you will see a black bowl filled with molasses and kuzukiri floating in ice water.
The ice is also beautiful and not a speck of ice is left on the surface.
The kuzukiri are cooled down to a firm consistency, and the elegant molasses, which has absolutely no smell at all, clings to the kuzukiri and goes down your throat without a hitch. It was delicious.
I have never had such delicious kuzukiri before. The taste of this molasses is unbelievable to begin with.
It is so wonderful that you want to taste the remaining molasses and drink it all up.

5,Kamo Mitarashi Tea House
The “Mitarashi” is a large portion of five small dumplings.
Mitarashi sauce is also “hot”!
It tastes sweeter and tastier.
The dumplings are baked again, so the baked surface is fragrant, and they are hard rather than chewy, so you can enjoy their elasticity. The dumplings were small, easy to eat, and warm.
It did not get hard even after it cooled down.
The sauce was a little sweet.

We visited during the daytime. We took off our footwear to enter the restaurant.
The warabimochi was very delicious. Personally, the quantity was just right.
The store used to be a tea house, and there were historical furnishings all over the place, giving the place a very nice atmosphere!
We were taken upstairs to a large room with tatami mats and a large chabudai (tea table), which nowadays gives the restaurant a nostalgic feeling!

7,Ajari Mochi Honpo, Kyoto Confectionery Shop, Mangetsu Honten
I walked there from Demachiyanagi station, but it was not that far.
There is a security guard in front of the store, so you can easily find it.
However, the road in front of the store is narrow with no white line in the middle, so if you are not a confident driver, it is better to take public transportation. ‼️
I thought the interior of the store would be smaller, but there is room for many people, and it is larger than I expected.
There is also a restroom, and there are desks and chairs.
There is a simple case of products to order.
Mangetsu is famous for its Ajari rice cakes!

8,Daigokuden Honpo Rokkaku Store
The store’s historical and elegant appearance made me feel excited even before entering.
When I entered the store, I found a Japanese sweets store in the front and a coffee shop in the back, and a seat overlooking the courtyard by the window was available, so I was able to be seated smoothly.
The very cozy interior, the veranda and goldfish bowls in front of the store, and the Japanese style are recommended for those who like Japanese style.
