Kyoto’s most popular? Let us introduce you to Arashiyama. From popular sightseeing spots to recommended restaurants.

1,The path of the bamboo grove

One of the most popular walking spots in Arashiyama and Sagano is the “Bamboo Grove Road” that stretches northwest of the Togetsu Bridge.

The straight green bamboos cover overhead and look like a big green tunnel. It is also popular as an Instagram-worthy spot.

If you want to take pictures, we recommend early in the morning when there are few people around.

3,Kyoto Arashiyama Onsen Bathing Place Kaze no Yu

Arashiyama’s first day spa facility.
The scenery is pure Japanese style and the sound of cicadas is nice.

The hot spring baths have a certain feel to them, the sauna makes you sweat, and the water baths are neither too warm nor too cold.
If it were that good, I would say it is perfect because it is well organized, but it is crowded with tourists.

From Hankyu Arashiyama Station, it is only a two-minute walk!
If you take this train, you will have to change at Katsura station, but it will take about 20 minutes to Kyoto Kawaramachi station!
From there, Gion, Kiyamachi, and Ponto-cho are just a short walk away!

4,Nomiya Shrine, a marriage spot

Nogu was once the place where the Saio (chosen from among the princesses and queens), who served the Ise Jingu Shrine on behalf of the emperor, purified themselves before going to Ise.
The Nomiya Shrine was built in a pure location in Sagano, a sacred place surrounded by a black wooden torii gate and a small bush fence. The scene is beautifully described in the Tale of Genji, “The Scroll of the Wise Tree.
The location of the shrine was determined for each emperor’s accession to the throne, and it is said that our site was first used in the early Heian period (794-1185) by Princess Niko, the daughter of Emperor Saga.

5,eXcafe Kyoto Arashiyama Honten

I spent an elegant afternoon at “eX cafe Kyoto Arashiyama Honten” as if I were in a back room of Kyoto.

I arrived just in time for opening time, so I was able to easily enter the cafe without waiting in line.

The spacious interior is bright and open, with large windows overlooking a beautiful, lush garden.

We were lucky enough to be seated by the window, where we enjoyed a luxurious time listening to the pleasant music that played in the restaurant, making us forget about the time.

6,Tenryuji Temple, the first historic site and special place of scenic beauty in Japan

The main temple of Tenryuji School of Rinzai Zen Buddhism.

It was founded by Ashikaga Takauji on the site of Kameyama-den, the former residence of Emperor Gosaga, to pray for the repose of the soul of Emperor Godaigo.
