Introduction
Sauna Umeyu is the first of the Yutonamisha Public Baths, which took over in 2015.
Located close to Kyoto Station, it is visited by many customers of all ages, genders, and nationalities.
Some people make their “sento debut” at Umeyu, and beginners to sento are also very welcome.
Many of our staff members are culture enthusiasts and hold music events on regular holidays.
The neon signboard of “Sauna no Umebiyu” has been in place since before it was taken over, and the reason for the “Sauna no” is because it was rare to find a public bathhouse with a sauna when it was installed…!
Sanjiro Minato, a bathhouse enthusiast who conquered more than 700 bathhouses when he was a student, has taken over a long-established bathhouse out of love for the public bathhouse and is the keeper of the “Sauna no Umeyu”.
The concept of “Sauna no Umebiyu” is “Do what you want to do!”
As the concept states, “Sauna no Umebiyu” holds live events and sells original goods in addition to operating as a public bathhouse.
In addition, the “Umeyu Newspaper” publishes articles on events held at the “Sauna no Umeyu” and sells vegetables and rice produced by farmers, among other things.
Of course, there is also the commitment to being a public bathhouse.
While many public bathhouses boil water with gas, one of the attractions of “Sauna no Umeyu” is that it uses firewood provided by demolition sites and carpenters to boil water in a kettle that has been in operation for nearly 30 years.
Since the bathhouse is open in the morning on Saturdays and Sundays only and stays open until 2:00 a.m. except on regular holidays, it attracts many regular customers of younger age.
