Introduction
Located in the Uji area of Kyoto, this wagashi and sweet store has been selected as one of the 100 best stores in Kyoto.
There is also a store in JR Kyoto Station, but this is the main store.
Since its establishment in 1868, Nakamura Tokichi Honten has been pursuing the “character” of each tea. Sencha is a fresh, cool, and refreshing tea grown in the open, uncovered field, just like sencha.
Gyokuro is a kind of gyokuro that is cultivated under cover, and has a profound flavor.
Uji is famous for its matcha (powdered green tea), and Nakamura Tokichi is quite famous for its matcha sweets and desserts. However, the parfait I was served was one that is only available at the main store.
We got off at JR Uji Station and rushed to the shop before it opened. The wait that day was only about 30 groups, which seemed small for a holiday. However, we waited for about an hour before entering the restaurant. There is a souvenir shop attached to the restaurant, so we could kill some time and went out to explore the town.
The “Mato Parfait” is a must for lovers of sweets and green tea.
The rich matcha jelly, smooth matcha ice cream, and fragrant hojicha ice cream are layered together like tea art.
The mochi (sticky rice cake) and anko (red bean paste) add a gentle sweetness that creates an exquisite harmony in the mouth.
The deep lingering taste of matcha green tea spreads with each bite.
