Introduce
This Japanese restaurant in Gion has a great atmosphere.
The atmosphere is like you would expect Japanese cuisine in Kyoto, but in a relaxed and friendly manner.
You can see the ingredients right in front of your seat, and you can actually see the baby ayu swimming in the tank.
The grill is also right in front of you, so you can enjoy the aroma of the food as it is being grilled.
The seasonal matsutake mushrooms were also surprisingly large in size.
The taste is very good.
It was within the range of what I expected because it was faithful to the basics.
There are many restaurants that offer challenging Japanese cuisine these days, so compared to such a group of restaurants, this is an ordinary restaurant.
However, I recognize that these restaurants are places to enjoy the atmosphere rather than the taste.
Gion Sueyu is located in front of the Imperial Gate of Kenninji Temple, Kyoto’s oldest Zen temple, along Yasaka-dori in Gion, and offers the best in Japanese cuisine.
The building is tastefully decorated in the sukiya style.
Upon entering the restaurant, you will find a stone-paved approach with a small garden. The owner, Mr. Sueyu, designed the restaurant with a focus on Japanese architectural beauty, and you can feel the atmosphere of Kyoto from the restaurant alone.
The cuisine is a combination of authentic Kyoto-style kaiseki with a modern sensibility.
The cornerstone of the cuisine is “Yasaka-no-mizu,” water drawn from 40 meters underground.
The restaurant’s menu includes a variety of dishes, such as a sweetfish grilled right in front of your eyes.
